it’s those little things

I am reminded again and again it’s the little things in this world that count.
A smile.
A butterfly.
A favorite coffee mug.
THE best pajamas EVER for my lil peanut.

I have been complaining about the last few pounds of post-pregnancy. I also haven’t been trying very hard. I do realize I need to start exercising more, not only for the weight, but for the longevity of my life… and not suffering through the end of it.

I have been getting out sporadically. I did trudge {very} slowly up Mt. Major when I got my 6-week clearance from my midwife. And I ran a 3 mile circle at my mother’s camp with two of my sisters {who left my ass in the dust}.. And a few treadmill ventures, and jaunts on my road {trying to control my dog from lunging at chipmunks whilst pushing a baby stroller}.

I just need to find the consistancy.

So I went for a run last night. Just the pup and I.

Running is and has always been my go-to for exercise, not only that, but for when I need to clear my head as well. I’ve taken yoga and I have sat and meditated more times than I can count, they work, they’re great. But running is definitely my method.
As I ran last night, I was not thinking about what I said that day, or worrying about my future tasks. I was feeling the suttle yet crisp air of a surprisingly warm October night in New England. Houses were calm and dimly lit after a long day. Darkness was beginning to wrap around me as I pushed forward. I listened to Jameson’s tags clang into each other, and the rythm of my breathing. The air has a distinct aroma of decaying leaves this time of year, and it makes me thinks of yesterday…raking and jumping into leaf piles, trick-or-treating after dusk.

And field hockey.

And your blood is pumping and you’ve set a goal, but you want to push yourself and go a bit further, and then tell yourself the next telephone poll or mailbox will be your last.
It’s cool nights like this, getting out and warming my muscles is what has inspired me to get back on track. Getting out of the house and moving. Sucking in fresh air.

And I will thinking about my hike up Mt. Major this weekend with my son and dog. I was gifted a child carrier this weekend in honor of my birthday by my husband. I also got a custom coffee mug with my son’s footprints {and in my favorite color}. How spoiled am I?

I also received this “trashy bag” from my sister… and some coffee beans from her hometown. What she tells me is the community of Ghana use these plastic bags to carry their drinking water around. They then recycle them into these bags and sell them. My sister’s friend found a channel and has been selling them in their home of Alaska. I can’t wait to put it to good use!

I also received a homemade birthday cake from another sister. My nephew’s birthday is one day away from mine ♥

This is my busy season for photography, a lot of portrait and weddings going on in the fall {I am Autumn Bliss, after all}, and I wanted to take a minute out of my busy schedule and share a sliver of what is going on behind the curtains. Thanks for listening ☼
