30 Day Blog Challenge, Day 11: Cabin Fever

The photo, “Hangin” from blog challenge day 3, is the same location as this picture.  This is set in Alaska, up Lost Lake Trail.  This cabin is a break point that overlooks the Port of Seward.  The magnificance of Nature at its best.  The hikers ‘hangin’ in day 3’s photo were up on this cabin.  This photo was shot with my Canon SD6OO.  I added a vintage look to the photo, other than that, no other post-production.

The trail is very steep to get up to this point.  A couple of times along the trail, we stopped to pick salmonberries.  They are like oversized raspberries.  When we got home we made up a cheesecake and spread them over the top.  I also learned of huckleberries and watermelon berries.  Huckleberries are very much like blueberries, which I am accustomed to, and watermelon berries are small and red, and actually taste like watermelon, it is the darndest thing!  For those of you who know me, you know I adore foraging for berries.  A native of Maine, I’ve grown up picking wild blueberries.  There is nothing sweeter in life than hunching over the low bushes in a sunny field, or swatting mosquitos as you pull from high bushes under the tree cover…so whilst enjoying my days visiting my sister in Alaska, she made sure of it that we’d go berry picking in the wild.

Cabin Fever

I have decided to throw in a few more pictures, to give you an idea of what I have been chattering on about…below is a photograph of my sister and our friend picking wild huckleberries. Also a few shots of salmonberries, as well as at the very bottom a snapshot of some watermelon berries.

Cannot wait for my next trip to Alaska!
